Whatever we call it, the shorthand version is that it involves engaging with bloggers, with programs and promotions that they will wish to share with their readers. I’ve been writing about blogger relations on Marketing Roadmaps for quite a while now, and in my opinion, we are in the midst of a fairly important change.

Since I wrote my original post on PR and Blogging Outreach: 8 Practical Tips , I've noticed a deluge of postings by bloggers about how to pitch bloggers. Cece Erik Sebellin-Ross' Tech for PR : Erik has included a page on Social Media Basics  and his tips for blogging. I had been updating my original post with any posting that I came upon regarding this topic.

Being social media savvy, you add blogger outreach to your PR plans for a new product launch. You carefully research blogs using related keywords and competitor names to build a solid outreach list. You carefully craft your message, following best practices for blogger PR outreach : personalize each message, make it clear that you've read the blog and understand its subject matter, and explain the relevance of your message. You send your messages, and then...nothing. nothing.
I wish I had time to look at all these great things, but I find that I have to be pretty selective about where I will spend my time . I have a tendency to talk about things that are a little less bleeding edge than some other bloggers. So, I may be a little harder to convince to review something – although I'm sure that most bloggers do very similar filtering. So I thought it would be worthwhile to post on how I evaluate whether I'm going to spend time on a request to look at a particular product or service offering. I've been getting more and more messages these days that are asking me to take a look at a particular product or service.
Despite the fact that several smart PR bloggers, including Cece Lee , Laura Moncur and Elge Premeau have written about what works in blogger outreach for PR, there are still a lot of agencies and PR people who just don't get it.
