| ASTD's Big Question for December 2008: New LearningFriday, December 26, 2008 The ASTD Big question this month is What did you learn about learning in 2008? I learn so much all the time from students, clients and colleagues, it is hard to narrow it down to just two or three things, but I'll try. Here are a few of the lessons I have learned. Mostly about finding a good "model" for mobile learning course design, how others tend to view immersive learning environments and how Social Media is taking off in the least. posts this year about Social Media for Learning: Adopting Social Media in Your Organization: A Few Considerations A Pharmaceutical Leveraging Web. 2008 2009Wednesday, December 3, 2008 The fact that this is one of the general sessions at ASTD TechKnowledge is interesting way to start 2009. LinkedIn I had a major "aha moment" about my LinkedIn Connection Approach. . While large scale adoption will be slow, specific solutions aimed at particular audience needs will be more common. There will be increasing pressure on each of us to understand eLearning 2.0 for ourselves in order to apply it within our organizations ( eLearning 2.0 - An Immediate, Important Shift). This will increase adoption of Web 2.0. . Certainly in 2008, we saw lots of people are making tactical adoption - see Examples of eLearning 2.0. |

Applications in Learning : eLearning Technology
Last week I presented a session at ASTD TechKnowledge entitled eLearning 2.0 - Applications and Implications. the room was large it was very challenging to do that successfully. I discussed a bit of these issues in First Thoughts After ASTD Sessions. . Existing Adoption At the very start I asked the audience for examples of where they were currently using these tools as part of learning. . I discussed the fact that there was a common Adoption Pattern that went from personal adoption to work groups to organization. . So while the session focused on organizational adoption, it likely was the case that you should look for targeted adoption opportunities. I'm doing a keynote presentation at ASTD TechKnowledge in January on New Work Literacies and eLearning 2.0 and another session on Learning 2.0 . I would really like to be able to point attendees, blog readers, and realistically a lot of other folks to a set of resources that would help them on these topics. But, I really don't have time to create what I want to create. Are you willing to pitch in to help me create some interesting resources? I'm not sure how we will create these (Google Docs, Wiki, Mindmap, etc. eLearning Technology - Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Sunday I hop on a plane for Denver, the locus of ASTD's TechKnowledge conference. In the past, this was generally an introductory conference, with lots of very basic material. It was perfect for newbies. This year's TechKnowledge looks to be more sophisticated. Elliott Masie delivers one keynote, Ray Kurzweil the other. If you read Internet Time Blog , you already know I'm a tremendous fan of Ray's work. His notion of the acceleration of time is enough to rattle any of our cages. The radical changes we will experience in the next decade underpin my plea that organizations adopt more natural, informal, flexible approaches to learning. We will look at adoption trends and examples of eLearning 2.0. eLearning Technology - Saturday, November 22, 2008 - Report from ASTD TechKnowledge 06
This morning, hundreds of us packed the ballroom of the new Hyatt Regency Colorado Convention Center for the opening of TechKnowledge 06. Incoming ASTD president Kevin Oakes thanked the Rocky Mountain Chapter, advisory boards, hard-working staff, platinum sponsors, silver sponsors, planning committees, and others. Kevin and I go back quite a ways; Oakes Interactive was hawking multimedia training before the Web was invented. If I'm not mistaken, Kevin is the first educational technolgy specialist to lead ASTD. Elliott Masie took the stage to encourage us to adopt Extreme Learning . The Learning Circuits Blog - Saturday, February 4, 2006 - Frank Nguyen - EPSS - at ASTD
Frank Nguyen is presenting at ASTD on EPSS. You can find his presentation on his site. His major points were: Search is not an effective method for performers to find information. Integrating information closer to the work flow and work interface can improve performance. Novices cannot effectively use the same support systems as experts. Providing learners with more on-the-job performance support does not eliminate the need for training and there are cases where training is preferred When in learning mode - people want minimal information. . You must focus on more than the technology in order to drive adoption of EPSS. eLearning Technology - Monday, June 2, 2008
