    Help Create Resources for Keynote?
    Tuesday, November 25, 2008
I'm doing a keynote presentation at ASTD TechKnowledge in January on New Work Literacies and eLearning 2.0 and another session on Learning 2.0 . I would really like to be able to point attendees, blog readers, and realistically a lot of other folks to a set of resources that would help them on these topics. But, I really don't have time to create what I want to create. Are you willing to pitch in to help me create some interesting resources? I'm not sure how we will create these (Google Docs, Wiki, Mindmap, etc.). I'm fairly flexible, but at the end of the day they need to ...
New to Twitter? Thirteen Things to Get You Started (Part 2)
    Monday, November 17, 2008
In Part 1 I introduced the catalyst for this series. Though it's primarily intended for a project I'm doing for my local ASTD chapter (Orange County), the series would certainly have benefit for you, or a friend who might be new to Twitter. • List to Learn, Learn to List
This month's ASTD Big Question is, again, a series of questions. Apparently one BIG question is not enough for the learning and development community. We aim to exceed expectations. If you have a to-learn list and are willing to share, and willing to share how you work with that list, that would likely be helpful information. I constantly have a "to-learn" list. Some of the items are necessary and some are "pie-in-the-sky." I tend to have two methods of working on the list. One way is what I call "wandering." Using that technique, I will open up a piece of software or google a ...

  • Frank Nguyen - EPSS - at ASTD
Frank Nguyen is presenting at ASTD on EPSS. You can find his presentation on his site. His major points were: Search is not an effective method for performers to find information. Integrating information closer to the work flow and work interface can improve performance. Novices cannot effectively use the same support systems as experts. Providing learners with more on-the-job performance support does not eliminate the need for training and there are cases where ... mention Work Literacy was that even though most people know how to use Google search, they wouldn't find it to be ...

  • Where to Find Old Comic?
I'm excited about the presentation I'm creating for ASTD 2008 in San Diego. However, as part of putting it together, I was searching for a comic that I know I saw years ago where people were making fun of an executive that had his assistant print out his emails and dictated his responses. Does anyone know where I would find such a comic or something like that? Or any ideas on searching for such a thing? I've tried various things on Google Images with little luck. BTW, the point I'm highlighting is how changes in technologies and/or methods can cause previous methods to become out of ...

  • Beware the 'everybody's doing it' argument
I don't know about you, but nothing gets my back up more than someone trying to persuade me to do something because everyone else is doing it. The ASTD managed to achieve this unwittingly in one day, with two articles that they published through their 'e-learning community'. The first of these I have mislaid and cannot find anywhere on the ASTD site. I just typed "Life is an Open Book Test" when I was working on part of my ASTD 2008 presentation. I did a quick search on this phrase and found only 52 occurrences. There doesn't appear to be a well known initial quote source. Or am I missing it? By the way, have I mentioned that I'm feeling really good about this presentation?
