A new site called eLearning Tool Chest ( eLearningToolChest.com ) has a collection of eLearning books, authoring tools, blogs, and other miscellaneous resources. The site is growing each week. I think it could be pretty big in a month or two. If you think a specific book, authoring tool, or resource should be listed, you can suggest that it be added .

2 Weeks Later - Things Forgotten
My co-workers have been amazed by some of the stuff people have forgotten from the training. "I can't believe they forgot that the little blue i takes you to the patient demographics. That was there in the last version!" "I know you trained them on verifying results....TWICE!" "Authorizing Orders is easy - why can't they figure it out!" What I ... results, authorizing orders, and finding patient demographics - is more likely to be forgotten. And was.... Heck - I'm amazed that after the guerilla training we did anyone remembered anything.

Hello Captivate!
My Adobe creative suite and Captivate arrived and I have already dove into a project in Captivate. While I was waiting for the software to arrive, I designed and storyboarded a soft skill scenario simulation for management training courses that I am working on. Now I am knee deep in developing it in Captivate and I am kicking myself for not pushing harder for this purchase a year ago. Now I would love to go back and re do several of the eLearning courses I developed using Power Point and a Flash converter. Unfortunately I have too many projects on my to do list to spend the ...

Chronically Underfunded E-Learning
Until recently I was working with a decent budget and the broad guidelines of getting us started on e-learning. Senior Management recognizes e-learning as an opportunity for our training dept to take a giant leap forward and more importantly, achieve a better ROI on our training efforts. That is of course until we hit a slump in sales. As sales go down, so does the training dept's budget which is bad news for my e-learning project. I saw this coming but reality set in last ... around with a free authoring tool called Course Lab . So far I have been very impressed with Course Lab especially ...

ThinkingWorlds - Authoring tool for MUVE
Another gem from Donald Clark . I was not aware of ThinkingWorlds until today and now I can't wait to try it out. Mac Authoring Tools - Help Needed
I was just asked a question and was a bit at a loss for a response. This organization predominantly has Macs and would like to use something like Articulate or Captivate to: "convert our existing Powerpoint trainings, include quizes, track responding, track time spent enaged, insert Quicktime movies and deploy via the web." For so long, Adobe has had products on both Mac and PC, I assumed that Captivate had a Mac version - but I didn't find one. Any suggestions?

Authoring Simulation Genres: Branching Stories
One well-understood simulation genre is branching stories . In branching stories, students make multiple-choice decisions along an ongoing sequence of events around what to say to another person in a given situation. The decisions impact the evolution of the story, ultimately terminating in either successful or unsuccessful outcomes. Their ease of use, ease of deployment, and content style make them highly appropriate for entry-level salespeople, call center representatives, freshmen, customer-facing retail positions, and entry-level managers. Any high-turnover position should be trained ...

Authoring Simulation Genres: Game based models
One well-understood simulation genre is game-based models . More diagnostic than instructional, game-based models nonetheless might be the technique of choice by traditional educators and training groups looking to quickly goose their reputation, student ... all educational simulation designers will need to understand in the near future. Just in the nick of time!
Just as I was looking into purchasing Camtasia Studio by Tech Smith I came across a blog posting on Tony Karrer's eLearning Technology blog just in the nick of time. Tony posted links to free downloads of Snag It and Camtasia. I have been a long time user of Snag It and love it for screen shots. It is very handy for creating software training materials. I recently used the demo version of Camtasia to complete a software simulation project and it worked out great. I just installed Camtasia and can't wait to put it to use on a larger scale project. Software Shopping
Jackpot! Finally got the buy in from the boss to spend some money on Adobe software, mainly for developing eLearning and printed training materials. Thanks to the good ol' educational discount I can really make the most out of a $1000 budget. Obviously, I need the Creative Suite 3 but that's where things get sticky. I am looking at 2 different packages and the only difference between the 2 packages is that one includes InDesign and the other includes Fireworks. I have never used either of these products and I'm not sure which I could use more. Fireworks appears to be very similar ...
