An Online Learning Facilitator
Yesterday I wrote about being a Learning Facilitator - not getting in the way, but connection people to other people to learn - On or offline. Then I stumbled upon TEACHSTREET.com . They help anyone find courses on anything. Photography in Portland, OR ? Done. There were a number of courses for all levels.
This is about connecting those who want knowledge with those who have it.
Gather, control, teach and require has turned into aggregate, open, facilitate and house.
What can this teach us about what we might do in our organizations?

Guidance Needed - Are we Misguided in Informal Learning and Collaborative Learning Techniques
Found via: Big Dog, Little Dog - a very interesting article: Why Minimal Guidance during Instruction Does Not Work: An Analysis of the Failure of Constructivist, Discovery, Problem-Based, Experiential, and Inquiry-Based Teaching - Educational Psychologist It points out that open learning environments may not be good ways for people to learn. Doesn't this suggest that informal learning, collaborative learning and other approaches to learning that do not provide much guidance are - well - misguided?

Visualizing Mathematics
I just reviewed a book about learning and graphics -- Graphics for Learning by Ruth Colvin Clark and Chopeta Lyon. It turns out that MIT professor John Belcher and his fellow colleagues developed a Java applet that turns analytic vector functions into visual works of abstract art to help students better understand concepts like Vector Fields, Electrostatics, Magnetostatics, Faraday's Law, and Light.
The course also offer a number of other good learning techniques, such as collaborative learning and extensive course notes with visualizations .

Surveys in eLearning
Through two recent experiences I've come to realize that many people in eLearning are not using Survey tools nearly as much as I would have thought. For my recent Collaborative Learning eLearning 2.0 Class , I used a SurveyMonkey survey to ask the class members about their background, interests and availability. You can see the survey results on the Course Wiki . SurveyMonkey is very easy to use. It's free up to a limit. It will even help send the surveys, track who's taken them and nag people who have not completed the survey. And, of course, there are lots of other tools out ...
