For the record…
Tuesday, December 2, 2008
We interrupt your regularly scheduled blog for this important message:
I was talking with one of the bright and lively people at DevLearn 08 (the conference * rocked *), and we started talking about different folks’ ’styles’. She was opining about a couple of well known consultants and their credibility. I naturally asked about her perception of mine, and she was surprised to find out I was an independent consultant, thinking I was some sort of ... to learn quickly and swiftly assess a situation, and a systematic bent that tends to explore alternatives and ...

Twitter Brain: The New Condition Which Torments Me
Tuesday, December 2, 2008
Image via Wikipedia
My brain has made a strange transition and it is continuing to mold.
@KevinDJones has been active for some months now with 350 updates and 112 followers - neither of which even compare to many. It wasn’t until DevLearn, however, that I really started using it. Sure, every now and then, but that conference planted a twitter seed that started my brain reformation.
Now, unconsciously, my brain is starting to think in “twitter-bytes”. With every (OK - EVERY is too much, but you get the idea…) experience I have my mind goes ...

enlightening conference
What a wonderful conference it was in Fredericton, New Brunswick on mobile learning . Government, universities and research centers were represented and attended. It was a real treed to be able to speak in front of such an enlightened audience. The speakers were the cream of the crop on mobile learning: John Traxler, Steve Wexler, Stella Lee, Kevin Harvey and me (me not being cream, just soje). My presentation focused on mobile learning projects and social media to support the participants in those mobile projects. The audience engaged in the presentation making it an extra ...

Blogging a Conference
I just saw a blog that appears to have been created solely as a means to interact, capture thoughts and ideas during the Brandon Hall Innovations conference. It's a great way for folks not at the conference to have a sense of what's going on there. And, I bet it is a fantastic learning and networking experience for the blogger. Kudos to the BH folks for encouraging this even if there were issues .

Live Blogging the Learning Technologies Conference
The Learning Technologies Conference in Portland, Oregon is happening as I type. Christine Martell , Michele Martin and I are hosting. There are a few things I wanted to point out as we are going through this:
Learning and working are not exclusive. They can happen at the same time. We have such a tendency to separate them.
Social Learning ... using Web 2.0 tools for learning. They fit very nicely together, but are not synonyms.
Training = Delivery. Social Learning = Creating the learning with others. Training = 1:many. Social Learning = many:many or many:1 where the one is ...

Online Conferences and In-Person Conferences
Lisa Neal asked a great question in a comment on Learn Trends 2008 - Free Online Conference : What do you see as the main differences between in person and online conferences? I have a bunch of random thoughts on this and I'm hoping that folks will chime in. Now, don't get me wrong, I still very much like to do in-person conferences. I ...
