Does education need to change?
Friday, November 21, 2008
... education that has always bothered me is the multi-hour / multi-day sit-in-a-classroom model of "training." I hate teaching that way and I hate training that way. It is grueling for all parties. More voices on the future of training
Jim Belshaw posted a comment on the Learning Circuits blog today. He was responding to the ongoing conversation around the end of courseware and the growth of informal learning. Free Learning - and you are not involved
Anna Farmer, over at The Engaging Brand lists 8 Free Ways to Help People Learn at Work . Notice how NONE of the solutions include a trainer, an instructional designer, or any educational development models. No mention of eLearning, courseware, or anything that smacks of a classroom. Anna's emphasis is on business, leadership, and management. This is where many of our clients (corporate management) see the future of "training" - easy access to information, mentors, and collaborative tools. NOT courses.
