    My Facebook has Tipped
    Monday, December 1, 2008
Malcolm Gladwell says that everything has a Tipping Point , that point at which a virus goes epidemic, when the hip new thing goes mainstream. Think Uggs . Well, my Facebook world has just tipped. I'm not talking about the quantity of my friends, but rather the breadth and depth. In the past month, I have friended or been friended by: my 73 year old mother (we like to play Scrabble) my 16 year old niece (she has WAY more friends than I do ... the name of eLearning has just gotten plain weird. Improved collective performance: Investing in Web 2.0 - Knowledge Board We are all very familiar with social networking platforms such as MySpace, Flikr, YouTube, Twitter, Bebo and Facebook. They are almost household names. This is not so of a new generation of social networking technology, which is being used to provide software services under trading names such as Ning, CollectiveX, Sossoon, Hiitch, Huddle, Mzinga, British Telecom's Workspace (project management), Clearspace, and even Microsoft's Sharepoint. How does management respond to this? Traditional senior ...

  • Finding a Use for Facebook
I think I found a use for Facebook - for me.... The start of a personal toolkit.... I'm finding that there are interesting applications within Facebook that allow me to post items for feedback, play with new ideas, and share cool info ... importantly, for me, Facebook allows me to access stuff from 1 place while creating on the appropriate tools (links hosted on del.i.cious, accessed through Facebook; blog through Blogger, access through Facebook; videos on google Video, accessed through Facebook). As soon as I can get my Google Shared Item feed working, I'll be a real happy camper. I know my ...

  • Throwing Sheep
My great Facebook experiment continues..... I am starting to notice the same phenomenon that Karyn sees in her Web 2.0 participation ...the bleeding between one's professional and personal life. In my case, the bleeding went the opposite direction. What started as a professional Facebook profile is slowly being invaded by my real-life friends and acquaintances. I am also seeing more weird tools and gadgets being sent my direction, shockingly by my professional friends - most recently, SuperPoke. For instance - I sent Karyn a beer. Not a real beer (sadly), but it's better ...

One step closer to the Facebook LMS: This little Facebook app is TV Trivia Quiz. I was surprised at how many questions I could answer. OK...so help me out here....someone smarter than me (big number) help me understand the difference in architectural requirements and transactions that go on in say a social network like facebook with millions of users, probably hundreds of thousands of concurrent users, all executing millions of transactions from chat to photo uploads to quiz taking...with those of an LMS or an LCMS. • CCK08: Facebook for Academics
If you are a faculty member or administrative staff at a college or university then you might be tempted to check out Academia.edu . Probably the simplest way I can describe it is to call it "Facebook for Academics." All institutions are organized on the top level of a 'tree' (i.e. an organizational chart). The second level of the chart shows the departments within the institution and the third level shows the individual faculty and staff. Once you add yourself to the respective tree branch, you can select your research interests, display a photo and post a professional profile ...

Stephen Downes picked up my post on Facebook As a Learning Platform . He commented: To be clear, I do not think that Facebook itself is really a learning environment. It's a large, centralized piece of software that is getting creaky ... . I also feel like Facebook is a bit creaky and as Thomas Vanderwal's recent post Facebook for Business or LinkedIn Gets More Valuable points out, as you use Facebook more and have more friends, it seems to get harder to use. Linked in doesn't seem to suffer from that. All of that said, Facebook is surprising me in terms of how well it works as ...

Found via Publishing Enterprise Content To Facebook - Alfresco - a content management system has provided hooks for it to be used to deliver content to Facebook users. • Facebook in the Enterprise - WorkLight
Tony Karrer found this little gem... WorkLight. So now you can use all the power of Facebook as your company social network. I'm sure there's a militant IT manager out there somewhere willing to tell me why this will NEVER work. So, let's hear it. Why can't a tool like this be successful as the basis for your companies social network?
