Free Education?
Monday, December 1, 2008

Free education? I’m not referring to grants or scholarships. I’m talking about a change in the way we acquire marketable knowledge and skills. Could there really be such a thing as free education?
MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) has made essentially all its course content available in a free, web-based format. Tag line: “Free lecture notes, exams, and videos from MIT. No registration required.” ... universities respond? How will the work place respond?

Tagging
... publissed in January 2008. It might be useful for those who are looking for an in-depth study of tagging. Here's a description of the book: "Tagging is fast becoming one of the primary ways people organize and

organizational tools like folders and search on users desktops as well
as on the web. These developments mean that tagging has broad
implications for information management, information ... with tags. This book explains the value of tagging,

I've Been Tagged
Oehlert's post . Apparently, I've been tagged, which is a new thing for me in the blogosphere. Interestingly, the last task I am supposed to do is to tag 8 other individuals to do the same exercise. The reason I was encouraging you to read Mark's blog was because he already tagged everyone (hence, the "+1"). Technically, he has already tagged ...

Visualizing My Connectivism Learning So Far
Prompted my Michele Martin’s Web 2.0 Wednesday task for this week, I decided to do a Wordle tag cloud of my blog.
Learning is the top word in my cloud, followed by connectivism . Think , information , and networks are all prominent. Growing and grow are both more prominent than build–an interesting observation after my post about whether learning grows or is built .
Although Michele’s task was originally about personal branding, I ... the tag cloud, this time with just my post on learning and the comments (all 12 of them, at current count): ...

Color and Layout for Tag Clouds
I’m easing back into the swing of things after being offline since Thursday. (My grandparents just celebrated their 60th anniversary, so we had a big family get together.) I’m following Alan Levine & Will Richardson’s lead in creating a tag cloud with Wordle , which gives you some fun options for layout and color. (My apologies to anyone else who posted about this too. I’m sure others besides Alan and Will have written about Wordle, but I ... text from anywhere though.

Flickr: Photos tagged with devlearn2007 Originally uploaded by Brent Schlenker Hey! Check out all the great shots from DevLearn2007. I continue to remember bits and pieces as the days go by after the event. There are so many people to stay in touch with now. If you find yourself in one of the photos go ahead and add a note. Its fun! Don't know what a note is? Just comment and I'll expand on it. Its one of the things that makes Flickr a great learning tool. Cheers!

Tagging Reality - Enkin has huge learning potential
Great submission for the upcoming Google Android mobile platform. The rather dense description is:

It combines GPS, orientation sensors, 3D graphics, live video, several web services, and a novel user interface into ...

Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development: TONCHIDOT - Tagging the world - Extreme Mobile Learning
Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development: TONCHIDOT - Tagging the world - Extreme Mobile Learning Wow! If you haven't seen this, you HAVE TO take a look at Brent's posting above. Amazing and overwhelming all at once. After just showing this to my friend who just came back from India, she said she was so surprised to see that everyone there had cellphones. There would be 5-6 people piled on to one scooter (yes, try to imagine that first) and you were guaranteed to see one of them on a cell phone. This medium is certainly every where.
