  • Learning By Doing: The Tool is the Curriculum
I had to brush up on project management skills over the weekend. Did I read a book on it? No. Did I find someone who was an expert to help me? Nope. I downloaded Open Workbench (for me, a random open-source project management tool) and played around with it. I mapped a few of my projects into it. I looked through all of the fields and capabilities. And I learned quite a bit, including what I needed to know, plus a lot more that I am very happy to know. For those home schoolers looking at math curricula, I would suggest Microsoft Excel. Whatever math you need to know, you can learn ...

A reader from another country has asked me about Learning Object Tools. I asked him to clarify what they meant and the response was: Learning Object Tools are those that allow you to create, edit and manage learning objects. There is also a bit of language barrier. I pointed them at the Wikipedia article - Learning Object . It cites quite a few repositories and briefly mentions " Burrokeet is an Open Source Software tool that assists in the creation of Learning Objects from existing content. " This is something I'm not familiar with. I also suggested looking at LCMS products.

He talked about the stories that Web 2.0 is about open source, or social, were surface  takes, and by looking at leading companies, e.g. Google, there was ...
