It's 10 pm ... Where Is Your Metadata?
Thursday, December 4, 2008
My job at large Fortune 100 company involves the optimization of web collaboration and knowledge sharing. One primary task I have is trying to help my users find relevant information on our intranet. Thus, it's 10 pm ... where is your metadata? Seriously, how many of you use standard corporate templates for Powerpoint or Word documents? Have you ever stopped to see what is contained in the document properties? or do you just re-save your work with a new file name? In that case, many of your files have exactly the same name as far as a search engine is concerned ... such as <IBM ...

Reality Growing in Virtual World - Secondlife
Reality Growing in Virtual World is the title of an article in the Startribune from Minnesota. The learning community's Mark Oehlert (aka ChuckNorris Mission) is quoted and the article highlights some of the big work being done in Secondlife by the likes of IBM and others. "We're really at the very, very bleeding edge of companies doing this," said Mark Oehlert," an associate at the Booz Allen Hamilton technology consulting firm in Herndon, Va. "For one thing ... doing them?' " IBM's interest is significant, he believes, because it brings instant credibility to this frontier.

IBM Looks at Global Innovation
Recently, I got my hands on IBM's Global Innovation Outlook 2.0 report. You want to do the same. In fact, you may want to check out a number of reports and ideas flowing at the IBM Innovation Web site. But getting back to the Global Innovation Outlook 2.0 report. The report is well written and is fun and easy to read, it is written in the style and format of my favorite Tom Peters book Re-Imagine . So it is filled with images, quotes and statistics from a variety ... number of people who work at IBM. 724,000+ is the number of Americans for whom eBay is their primary or secondary ...

IBM Taps Employees for Innovation Using Blog Like Tools
On ComputerWorld, ran into an article IBM: Tapping Employee Brain Power you may find the print version easier to read (and on one page). The article mentions something that I had heard about from Tony O'Driscoll at IBM, but had not seen in print: IBM's new values, which include putting client needs first and fostering innovation, may seem obvious, but Truskowski says the participatory, grass-roots means by which they were developed gives them credibility with ... employees, and IBM later implemented the top 35 suggestions as determined by an employee vote. IBM Bloggers - A Lengthy List - But No Worries
I've been reading Luis Suarez's blog for a while, and he just had an interesting post that pointed me to IBM's BlogRoll . The i-web Singularity Redux
Virtual Worlds III is in full swing up in New York and around the blogosphere. The big news is that IBM announces a development deal with Second Life to bring their platform to the enterprise. This is yet one more piece of the puzzle that falls into place for a vision for what I am calling the i-web singularity: A technological black hole at the apex of four technological vectors that is moving forward at an exponential pace and integrating across vectors at the same time.
I have noodled on this topic before , but this time I think the focus is getting sharper.
