Presenting to Small Audiences - Change This

Searching for Something....
There is something about the "Web 3.0" hype that is fundamentally bothering me. I can't quite put my finger on it. Nicholas Carr has found what he considers the "first major Web 3.0 application" in Freebase . If Web 2.0 was about social connection. Web 3.0 seems to be about "mining meaning". Oh, and maybe having your software help you find that meaning for you. Hmmm....... Each time I read information on Web 3.0 apps - I keep thinking of librarians. Many librarians I know help teach you how to analyse information. Who is presenting the information? What's the bias? Can ...

Searching for Signs of Student Engagement
Here is an interesting interactive map from USA Today that measured student scores on 5 benchmarks: Level of Academic Challenge Active and Collaborative Learning Student-Faculty Interaction Enriching Educational Experiences Supportive Campus Environment There were two things that particularly stood out. First was the definition of "Active and Collaborative Learning". The "active" part involved asking questions, contributing to class discussions, and making presentations. How discouraging it is to see this as the "benchmark level" of active learning?!?! Perhaps more concerning ...

Delicious Upgrade
Yesterday, at my presentation Introduction to eLearning 2.0 - ASTD OC , I mentioned that Yahoo MyWeb had a few features that del.icio.us was sorely missing. And that had made me previously conclude: Yahoo MyWeb better than del.icio.us, rollyo, et.al. for Personal / Group Learning However, I told everyone that del.icio.us had been acquired by Yahoo and it was likely that slowly these features would get integrated. Where to Find Old Comic?
I'm excited about the presentation I'm creating for ASTD 2008 in San Diego. However, as part of putting it together, I was searching for a comic that I know I saw years ago where people were making fun of an executive that had his assistant print out his emails and dictated his responses. Does anyone know where I would find such a comic or something like that? Or any ideas on searching for such a thing? I've tried various things on Google Images with little luck. BTW, the point I'm highlighting is how changes in technologies and/or methods can cause previous methods to become out of ...

Content Value in an Open World
Interesting and quite ironic post that asks - Is Jimmy Wales Worth $300? - Jimmy Wales is the founder of Wikipedia and his talk is "Challenging how knowledge is created." It is ironic to be asking whether his talk is worth money? And, there are some links to his presentations that are quite good in this post: his presentation on TED Talks, a recent one - J immy Wales Gives Talk on Free Culture, Transparency, and Search - from earlier this month, on Cnet (excuse the compulsory Microsoft ad at the beginning) and Vision: Wikipedia and the Future of Free Culture from Fora TV.
