ASTD TechKnowledge - DevLearn Conference
I just received a question that I'm sure often is on the minds of people in eLearning - which conference they should attend (eLearning Guild DevLearn or ASTD TechKnowledge). I'm hoping that everyone can weigh in on their thoughts. Here's was the specific question (and all the information I have to go on) to help advise this person - I have been trying to decide whether to attend DevLearn 2008 or ASTD TechKnowledge in 2009. I have never attended either. I have been designing and developing elearning for about a year. Any suggestions? This person works in health care in ...

Beer Tasting at ASTD TechKnowledge - Look Out eLearningGuild Annual Gathering in Boston
Are you going to the eLearningGuild Annual Gathering in Boston? If so, I've got a suggestion... At ASTD TK07 , I was invited by Jim Javenkoski (who created his blog during one of my hands on sessions) to a beer tasting event that he was doing on behalf of Unibroue . Jay Cross , Harold Jarche , Clark Quinn all were able to join me. The beer and conversation were fantastic. I'm hoping that there will be a chance to have a similar kind of fun thing happen in Boston. The speakers in Boston look to be fantastic. On my panel session around eLearning Technologies, I have Stephen ...

As I'm thinking about going to the eLearningGuild Annual Gathering in Boston next month and ASTD in Atlanta in June, I went back to look at some notes I had created before around getting ready for conferences ... DevLearn - Beer - Who's In? - And Where?
I just saw that BJ had posted about DevLearn and I feel somewhat remiss that he beat me to it. In case you hadn't heard, The eLearning Guild is hosting DevLearn 2007 in San Jose, CA, November 5-8 2007. I'll be there (and doing a few presentations and some special sessions for managers with Lance Dublin). As always, I'll likely be getting together with folks who read this blog and other bloggers and other interesting folks to go have a few beers. It's become somewhat of a tradition for us at conferences ( Beer Tasting at ASTD TechKnowledge , Boston, Beer - Bloggers - ...

Instant Session/Speaker Ratings at Conferences?
Great question posed by Mark Oehlert - I will say that it is interesting that in addition to the slides you can also rate each session and leave comments about each. Total transparency. As we look for ways to improve conferences , this is a point we should ponder on. How would you feel if the ratings for a session you presented say at ASTD or the eLearning Guild were instantly available for public consumption? I know how I feel about this but I'd like to hear from some people - instant, visible ratings...boon or bane? I personally would love to see this happen. I often find myself ...

Role and Voice of Community Leaders - Your Input Needed
... eLearningGuild, Masie, ASTD, VNU, Brandon Hall, etc., you will find very different approaches taken by the leaders of each. They ... Based on the post He Had a Bad Day , Mark Oehlert , Heidi Fisk and I have had an email conversation that raises an interesting broader questions around the role, voice and communication norms of people who are the leaders / organizers of groups like the eLearningGuild. Should they try to stay behind the scenes and put members out in front? Should they have a strong voice and opinion that champions approaches or direction for the members? Do they need to ...
