The Big Question for January
After returning from a nice, long Christmas/New Year vacation, I've been playing catch-up on emails and blogs (thank goodness for Google Reader ). One of the interesting posts was Tony Karrer's "Big Question" for January . The question is "What are your predictions for Learning in 2008?" Back in October, I did a short post on the numerous amount of claims, predictions, and trends (usually displayed as a Top 10 list). I indicated in the post back in October (and the prediction remains for 2008) that the number one trend will be an emphasis on performance improvement. We've ...

Big Question - Dec 2007
I do a variant of this exercise 3-4 times per year. This iteration of the Big Question allows me to think about past, present, and future on a more professional and public level. What will I remember most about 2006? 1) Finally bringing up the last department on the Electronic Medical Record. 5 years of paper to computer conversions in 2 different institutions comes to a close. Not a moment too soon..... 2) Bribing my boss into letting me attend eLearning 2006 ... . Including configuration and planning. Training time provided: 2 weeks. I hate this trend towards speed with "training" ...

April's big question: backed up at the crossroads
April's big question in the Learning Circuits blog is 'ILT and Off-the-Shelf Vendors - What Should They Do? ', in particular about the fact that good content is now freely available on the web, customers want their classroom training in smaller and smaller chunks and various other adverse trends. Now I wasn't going to respond to this question because I felt it didn't really affect me too much, but then I read Tom Haskin's wonderful response - Leave a clean corpse ... typically such a big business issue?) insufficient demand for change from employers to force it to happen at any pace.

The big question: What are your predictions for learning in 2008
In addressing this month's question on the Learning Circuits Blog , I was tempted by an observation made by Stephen Downes in his review of last year's eLearn Magazine predictions : ... there are two major types of predictions: one, which identifies a current trend, and says it will continue; and the other, that identifies something novel or unexpected. It seems clear that the former predictions are easy and safe and not especially useful. The latter, while not as safe, were much more useful to people. Guarded because, like Oscar Wilde, I know I can resist ...
