As someone who uses Moodle as a tool to support blended learning projects for several of my corporate clients, I was interested to hear Mark Tointon's speak at the recent eLearning Network showcase about some new add-ons for Moodle which are specifically designed to support corporate use of the tool. The big question: what did you learn about learning in 2007?
The Learning Circuits Blog has started up its monthly Big Question again and the question, perhaps appropriately as we see out what remains of the year, is 'what did you learn about learning in 2007?' I'm tempted to say 'most of it ... 'macro theories' (George Siemens and Connectivism, Jay Cross and Informal Learning) and a whole raft of micro-theories emanating from cognitive neuroscience (as just one example see my Science of Learning posting). However, my own reflections have centred more on how it is that people learn at work, not in terms of what goes on inside their heads, but ...

Why we need both live and self-paced communication
Recently we have seen the release of two annual reports - the ASTD's 2007 State of the Industry Report and Training Magazine's 2007 Industry Report. Both show similar growth in the use of e-learning in the USA. As a share of total formal training hours, the ASTD shows e-learning at approximately 25% (up from 11% five years ago), while Training Magazine shows e-learning at 30%. What caught my attention was how this 25-30% was made up, with about 2/3 asynchronous (self-paced) and 1/3 synchronous (live/real-time), although the majority of the non-e-learning elements are synchronous as ...

Brandon Hall Researchers Blogging - Implications?

For some months now I've been carrying Jay Cross's new book Informal Learning around in my bag to read on train ... just two issues I'd like to take up.
