Wesch Strikes Again!
I can't get enough of this. The University of Manitoba recently posted the video of Micheal Wesch's June 17, 2008, talk entitled "A Portal to Media Literacy" where you can get a glimpse into how Micheal organized a couple of his classes at Kansas State University. He strives to create platforms of participation for students that leverage the emerging media environment. He shows how to let students participate in their learning in an open way to harness the 'upload world' they are familiar with. Some great illustrations of practices in wiki and RSS aggregator usage are in this ...

Learning 2.0 Is Like Punk Rock
I had a fun discussion last night with several friends / colleagues. We were trying to hypothesize why so many (e)Learning 2.0 initiatives don’t get the traction we would expect, both at our organization and at other organizations. Several of us learning tech geeks see such great opportunities with learning 2.0, but it sometimes feels like others just don’t get it . We have fantastic tools at our disposal, like blogs, social bookmarking, wikis, RSS, etc. - and many of these tools are free. However, it feels like we’re pulling teeth when we try to make a business ...

Will Blogs, Wikis, RSS, Mashups be Used in Corporate eLearning?
I saw another post from Dave Boggs, Has The Blogging Trend Begun To Fade, Even Before It Ever Got Started In Corporate Training / e-Learning Environments? In this post, Dave unfortunately lumps together blogs, wikis, mashups, rss feed ... rates is going to be quite different for these things with Wikis and Mashups being adopted at a very high rate. RSS and Blogs have much slower adoption. Wikis provide an opportunity for us to create reference hybrids - Shift in eLearning ... in favor of Wikis. Wiki Course Authoring
In my Ten Predictions for eLearning for 2008 , I said - Wiki + SCORM + Add-ins will become more common for easy authoring. Not sure if he saw my post, but I was just reminded by Tim Seager from Xerceo about their Prescribe tool that provides: Full Wiki, RSS functionality that is SCORM conformant for tracking and managing competencies. He also pointed me to a video that shows the tool in action. However, this video may be the worst video I've ever seen in terms of ... that I see in using a Wiki for authoring... A Wiki should make course authoring extremely easy and even easier to ...

Google Sites ... Nice ... Not a wiki
Google has a new service named Google Sites . You can read Google's own announcement , or watch a short video demonstration . In short, this free service allows anyone to create a collaborative web portal. However, although you may give anyone you desire full edit privileges, the service does not act like a wiki (anonymous edit, open invitations to join site, RSS, etc). Having said that ... it looks quite good. Here are some screen shots of the basic features. Your viewing options are to either view / download the Powerpoint file (includes annotations), or expand any ...

RSS: The new intranet protocol? Learning2.0 behind the firewall
From ZDNet is the article RSS: The new intranet protocol? RSS is the LMS killer! Why? Because it looks like LMS providers have been wanting to become all things to all people by trying to add KM, eLearning, ILT management, learning2.0, etc. all into one package. It's not necessary when IT departments are deploying the informal learning tools behind the firewall. An LMS should simply track usage stats for the small amount of remaining courses and then somehow try to ... Intel that it just wastes my time. Its nice see MS integrating wikis into the tool but there is so much more that needs ...

I just got back from a week of meetings in Hawaii (I know, I can't complain). It was great being in Hawaii; however, I think I am a little sick because one of the things that I was interested in seeing was the Wiki Wiki buses at the Honolulu airport. When I grow up...
Call me sappy, but I love this! How many schools have banned Web2.0 tools and services? How many of those kids will be ready for their future? This video takes it's style from the now popular The Machine is Using us Video and/or RSS in Plain English video, and the follow up WIKIs in Plain English . But that's the greatness of the web in action. Kids learn by copying the things they think are cool. From there they begin to develop their own style.

Stop the Learning2.0 MADNESS!!!
Blogs, wikis, RSS, Social Networks, and all the rest are finally hitting the mainstream. You'd think I'd be thrilled...BUT OMG!!! When we say that blogs and wikis are another tool for your eLearning toolbox, we don't mean to say that you install a new blog, or wiki, for each learning solution/intervention that you implement. ARGH!!! If your company has an enterprise wiki loaded up and ready to go...USE IT!!! Training/learning depts should be leveraging the technology, NOT creating it and maintaining it themselves (at least in most situations). Same goes for a blogging engine. If ...
