It's Hacks to You!
Thursday, November 27, 2008
MIT World has reworked their service, and all the video is now converted to Flash. Yea! This means all their videos run smoother, quicker and don't required one to use Real Video. In addition, MIT has brought online a new user interface that makes it easier to explore content and learn new ideas. However, as today is Thanksgiving in America, I will review some lighter fare from MIT:
Where the Sun Shines, There They Hack
Take a few minutes and learn how MIT took over the Rose Bowl scoreboard to announce they were beating CalTech (neither school even has a football team!).

Flash Rookie
I earned rookie status in Adobe Flash by making my first GIF animation. I had always been interested in this and was surprised at how easy it is to learn Flash. After playing around with this a little I am amazed at how skilled some people are with the drawing tools. I found the drawing tools very difficult to work with. Any tips or tricks for becoming better at using the drawing tools in Adobe products? What spurred me to get started with Flash is an assignment for a ... sprouting out of the ground. Although this is a very basic start in Flash I had fun and I am looking forward ...

Flash
In the old days, web purists ranted against Flash. It was proprietary. It wasn't web-like. How do people feel now? I'm thinking more of posting on the open web than in a controlled in-house environment. I'd like to replace Abode pdf white papers with a new design I'm calling a "brief." Briefs are created in FlashPaper. Take a look . Is the fact that Macromedia owns Flash a hang-up?

Flash and Silverlight Content becoming Searchable - Kinda...

ISO: Free Interactive Flash Thing
Here is the spiffy tool I am looking for: A YouTube / Google Video service for Interactive Flash files. Oh yeah - gotta be free. And I'd like to be able to post it on my blog (just like YouTube / Google Video) I think it would be neat to be able to share our stuff without having to develop an entire web site. Anyone know of such a beast? Thanks.

One of ITM's scientific flash learning instruments
At ITM we have been experimenting with Flash animations as learning tools. I just want to share one with you all, feel free to add comments or remarks. Practice in veterinary diagnosis is essential and requires hours and days of intensive training in laboratories normally using expensive and high technological equipment. With the success of web-based and blended learning practice has never been more important because learners still need to be trained and prepared in diagnosis. New technologies both in software as well as photography-microscopy allow us to develop simulations ...

Free Flash Quiz Tools?
I received a question on my post - Flash Quiz Tools - asking about any tools that were free that allowed you to create a Flash Quiz. The only free Flash Quiz Tool that I know anything about is Class Marker - a free flash quiz tool. Create multiple choice, true false, free text, short answer, fill in the blank and punctuation quizzes. So I added this back into my post, but it got me wondering if there aren't a lot of other solutions out there that I don't know about. Certainly you could do this as poll questions. So are there other free flash quiz tools that I'm missing?

Happy birthday Flash
Today I sat down to write a short column for a magazine on the use of Flash as a delivery medium for e-learning. While searching for some history, I came across this Flash History by Rick Waldron. It seems Flash has its origins in a product called SuperSplash Animator, based largely on the work of graphics enthusiast and programmer, Jonathan Gay. Anyway, Macromedia acquired this product, renamed it Flash 1.0 and launched it in November 1996. A quick look at the calendar to ... them. So, happy birthday Flash.

Flash Player Coming to the iPhone
Narayen , recently spoke about developing a Flash player for the iPhone during the Adobe Q1 investor relations call . Narayen said:
“Well, you know, we really believe that Flash is synonymous with the Internet and frankly anybody who wants to browse the Web and experience the Web in all its glory really needs Flash support. I mean, we were very excited about the announcement from Windows mobile adoption of Flash on their devices and the fact that we’ve shipped a half billion devices now, non-PC devices — so we’re also committed to bringing the Flash experience to ...

SCORM and Bandwidth Part 2
In my previous post SCORM and Bandwidth , I described an issue I am having with a Captivate eLearning tutorial freezing up on some of my users accessing it through Moodle. It turns out I was right that the problem has something to do with the zipped SCORM package. I came to this conclusion by posting a link to just the .swf file and it works great for the users who had issues. How come the .swf file works great but the zipped SCORM package freezes up? I also tried posting a link to the html file and that froze just like the zipped SCORM package. At this point I can move forward with the ...

Open Request for your tips on Creating Flash-based eLearning Content
SUBMIT YOUR TIPS HERE Friday March 7th is the deadline!!! The recent Guild Research 360° Report on e-Learning Authoring and Development Tools found that a tools ability to output to Flash SWF files is the 3rd most important feature when evaluating authoring tools - only falling behind a tools ability to allow content to be easily updated, and that it's learning curve is low relative to other tools. With this kind of weight behind the use of Flash in e-Learning, we decide it was time to dedicate a new Guild eBook to the topic - Tips for Producing and Managing Flash-based ...

Instructional Design: What do you get when you mix articulate presenter, with captivate, with camtasia, with webquiz ... you could get THIS
How can you mix all kinds of software's AND social media apps? That is one of the questions I have roaming about in the back of my mind. On the verge of my vacation, I wanted to test a new software ( Articulate Presenter ) and see if other software that we use to build courses with can be implemented. If you want to, you can see the result following this link (it is an nice mashup for different educational goals). It works with Flash, so sometimes he preloads to buffer the multimedia files. The final product was produced by Articulate Presenter, but I mixed in Del.icio.us, ...

Shootorials: Kongregate Teaches You How To Make Your Own Games
Kongregate , my favorite place for demonstrating the endless variety of Flash-based game potential (currently 8,334 free games), is now hosting a tutorial section designed to teach you how to build Flash-based games.
They provide a side-scrolling game called "Shoot!"...so you play the game, then you download the source code , and off you go. Currently they have three tutorials up with 6 more in the pipe.
I love this - how smart is Kongregate being?
