    Google Blog Search Fix Coming
    Thursday, December 4, 2008
As I reported in Google Blog Search Problems , Google seems to have included the full text of blog pages (including blog rolls) in their blog search. I just saw this post which both confirms that Google changed something which is causing the problem and that then intend to fix it. According to Jeremy Hylton of the Google Blog Search team , they now index the full content of the page. This means that not only do they index the full post even if the blog publishes a ... publishes a new post, Google Blogsearch picks up the new page, including the sidebar details. So you may get an alert ...

  • New Google Chrome - interesting
I'm a big Google fan, but I'm not quite sure about Chrome yet.  I saw tons of Twitter chatter yesterday going on about it, so first thing this morning I had to give it a try. Yes it has many features I had seen mentioned yesterday, but the very first thing that struck me was where is the toolbar and why couldn't I figure out how where it was located. After a very few searches I found I wasn't alone in looking for this feature.  Harry McCracken at Technologizer  had the same thoughts and explains more of his troublesome experience in trying to install the tool.  ...

  • LearnSense? - Googles AD Sense to deliver content
Ad Age Audio Reports - Google is talking about adsense as a content distribution technology. Google adsense recognizes the context of a web page and delivers relevant content. Currently that content is advertising. But in the near future that could be ANY type of content. Are you following me here? Doesn't this sound a lot like "what you need, when you need it"? What if the content delivered was training content? Just in time. Just what you want. Right when you needed it. This is why I like staying tuned into the Advertising and Marketing world. They get all the ...
  • gLMS is coming - Google Gears
This post isn't about Google Gears as much as it is about what it signals to the learning industry. When I get more ... , why not just build that capability right into the browser? Google did. Its called Google Gears and its just another ... . But now Google Reader functions OFFLINE...bye bye client side readers. Remember, MOST of what we learn and know ... release of Google Gears MediaWiki (and ALL wikis for that matter) become infinitly more powerful once they re-code to take advantage of the offline capabilities of Google Gears. • Google Goggles - targeted performance support
At last - I return. To many of you I may have appeared to have taken a previous post on sleep and memory a little too literally. While I now consider myself fully consolidated, what with holidays and a surge in demand for my e-learning services to contend with, it's proven difficult to post at the frequency I intended. So I figure I'm in need of some performance support... On that note, ...

  • Brief Commentary - Google Gadget v. Popfly
For the first time in awhile, I think Microsoft has Google beat. At least in terms of widget development for dummies.... Case in point - the documentation for Gadget development from Google . vs. Popfly Easy cheezy for non-coders like myself to build spiffy gadgets. Microsoft provided excellent baseline code for us to edit. Microsoft spent a lot of time focusing on developer tools and user interfaces on this product. The only current gripe I have about Popfly (and Google Gadgets) - my computer slows to a crawl during development. I'll be posting my experiments here ...

  • Google Trends
It's that time of year again, a time to reflect on trends past and future. Sparked by Tom King's comparison of authoring tools I thought I'd take a fresh look at what Google Trends can tell us about e-learning and the wider training industry. There is a seemingly endless debate over how to spell the name of what we do. Are we "e-learning" or "elearning" or "eLearning"? Google Trends ...

  • New Communication on the Web - Google Chat Video
I just tried video chat on Google and it was easy and cool. It worked really well. I think this is another important step to improved communication on the web. I really need to get a laptop with an integrated camera and mic. I wonder if this is enough justification to get a new Mac laptop? It will also be interesting to see if you can embed a chat module into other pages like Blogger and Google Sites. Time to experiment.

  • Wink screencasts, Google Co-Op, and eContent
Rich Hoeg, author of the eContent blog , sent me some links that I think are worth sharing. My favorite is a link to his post showing some Engineering Domain searches Rich created with Google Co-Op . Wink is a very cool little screencapture tool I've never heard of before. Its Windows only, but at least its freeware. Thanks for sharing, Rich! This is some great new stuff!
  • Project Management using Google Sites
My office has been playing around with the Google Sites wiki for the last few weeks ( I've written about Google Sites before. ) We've been using it to collaboratively author mini-reports as well as staff meeting agendas. I would like to try to use a wiki site to track an online course development project. It would be a place where the project team could define goals, publish milestones, post files and monitor progress on project activities. I think Google Sites would ... my next project. • Lively
Lively Google has started a SecondLife type virtual world called Lively.  I am loading it now. The avatars in the pictures look really interesting, kind of Tim-Burton-Esc". It is taking a little time for the "room" to materialize, but still pretty cool.  There is a lot going on. I think they wanted to make sure that it wasn't like SecondLife. I am sure this will be the topic on conversation for some time to come in the blogesphere. Blogged with the Flock ...

Part of what we do in the eLearning community is help others become better at what they do by offering instructionally sounds learning opportunities. Well, we can also help people get smarter by introducing them to time saving techniques, or Life Hacks as they have become known. My favorite Lifehacker is Merlin Mann of 43 Folders . This is Merlin's presentation at Google on Getting Your Inbox to Zero . Many of Merlin's suggestions are based on the book Getting Things Done and he references the GTD process. I do recommend the book and implementing some sort of process in your ...

  • Tracking Google Results via Google Alert
Do you Google? Would you like to be automatically informed of relevant Google results that match a query you pre-define? Does tracking those Google results via RSS appeal to you? Assuming the answers to these questions are "yes", then you need to use Google Alert . This service allows you to create RSS feeds and/or email notifications against your Google query results. Over time, you may also track new content which satisfies your query options. A basic account to use Google Alert is free. I've created an updated Google Alert tutorial / screencast which reviews the ...

  • Google Acquires JotSpot
Just saw this on TechCrunch - Google Acquires Wiki Collaboration Company Jotspot . Interesting timing in that I just posted about Matt Glotzbach's presentation at the Web 2.0 event. This suggests that Google will have a Wiki tool (that's partyly aimed at the enterprise) as part of their Google Office. Google already has blogger. Google now has a great wiki tool.
