Getting Settled In
If you’ve been wondering why things have beent a little quiet on the blog, my husband and I just moved from Chicagoland to North Carolina, in the Raleigh-Durham area. Our stuff has arrived and we’re slowly getting settled into the new place. However, pretty much our whole lives are still in boxes and bins.
I have to say that I really appreciate being able to telecommute, both because it means we can do this move to someplace warmer and because I was able to work from a hotel while waiting for the moving truck to arrive. Yesterday morning I worked from a local coffee ...

My wife (a manager in a Southern California non-profit dealing in human trafficking issues) is still gushing to family and friends about what a great day ...

Physics Lectures
I had seen these physics lectures before, but I was reminded via Stephen Downes and the NY Times article about professor Lewin's lectures and was telling someone about them just the other day. Thought I should definitely point you to them. I personally am compelled by watching something like Planet Earth. Professor Lewin has managed to create something akin to that experience on a topic that can be made extremely boring by most professors. You can find his lectures ... physics at their local university at all.

Evenings alone
I was reading in Management Today magazine about a new website called SkyLounge.com , which connects business travellers who want to meet up with like-minded souls when stuck in a strange town on their own with nothing to do in the evenings. "Wal*Mart pulling the plug on their music DRM Server" (TechCrunch)
See people, this is why crap like DRM is important. Read this whole story over at TechCrunch but the upshot is that if you bought music from Wal-Mart with its DRM built-in, then you better get to your local Best Buy and pick up a stack of CD-Rs. Wal-mart is going DRM-free - good, right? - except that when it does, it will turn off those DRM servers and you won't be able to access your DRM-protected music files THAT YOU ALREADY PAID FOR!

Service Providers - How Do You Find Good Ones
Within a few hours of each other, I received two requests for referral to service providers. One request was for eLearning development providers from fairly large 5,000+ employees based in the US. We've looked at a few eLearning vendors and haven't been thrilled. So ... simulations and online custom leadership content? Likely they would want to have a provider who is fairly local, but ...

The big question: making a start in e-learning
In the Learning Circuits Blog, the big question for October is "I'm interested in a career in e-learning. What should I do first?" My first recommendation would be to decide where it is that you see yourself fitting into the e-learning landscape - as a manager, a consultant, a salesperson for a vendor, a designer, a developer, or a moderator/instructor? You also need to be clear whether you see yourself working primarily in education or in workplace ... based in Europe. There will, of course, be other local options, but it definitely pays to keep an ...
