Combating Terrorism the Web 2.0 Way
Monday, December 1, 2008
Several Web 2.0 entities (YouTube, Facebook, Howcast, Google) plus some academics and the Department of State will be gathering next week to kickoff the Alliance of Youth Movements Summit . The goal is to find ways to use media to counter the messages of violence, extremism, and oppression. It will be very interesting to track the progress of this movement on the "areas of interest". There is a lot of potential to make some serious changes in the quality of the message being delivered to young people in different countries.

Is YouTube changing how we live?
I learned through my twitter feeds that Micheal Wesch has another video (see posts on his previous videos here and here ). This time it is a recording of an academic presentation he made to the Library of Congress on June 23rd, 2008. It's just under an hour long and it provides an excellent overview of the impact some Web 2.0 technologies from an Athropological perspective. In particular, the presentation examines in detail the concepts of YouTube and of user-generated ... something in this talk for everyone. Check it out and let me know what you think. Social Networking in Plain English - Yeah!
These guys keep crankin' 'em out. I love it! Social Networking is also Social Learning. I think deepest learning comes from human connections and Social Networking tools make it easier than ever to connect to the people you want to learn something from, or with whom you are willing to learn with, together, collaboratively. Before there was online social networking I remember reading business books about the power of the "rollodex": Important successful people ALWAYS had a massive rollodex. At the time I remember thinking about the dozen or so people that I had on a piece ...

Why we should care about media ratings and YouTube
Will Richardson hooks me up with The 463 blog . I should have waited and linked to this in my last post because they talk to the same issue: user-generated content. Wasn't that longtail video awesome! Users are driving the new media environment, and users are driving the new learning opportunities. Do you think any of the LMS vendors are working on a YouTube for behind the corporate firewall? Yeah, right. I didn't think so.

OK...so this is the kind of innovation I'm looking for in the learning industry...
... found via TechCrunch )
On one level, SonicSwap is a service that makes use of YouTube's API to allow users to upload their iTunes playlists and play songs and videos via YouTube's API. But now all that good brain fertilizer from the SCORM 2.0 workshop has me thinking....so we build this platform...YouTube for learning...and then we publish the API and people can use the platform and can assign rights using the platform...and others can pull objects thru the API ... this and like Udutu's work in our maket space.... so what gets your vote for most innovative learning tool?

Live Blogging the Learning Technologies Conference
The Learning Technologies Conference in Portland, Oregon is happening as I type. Christine Martell , Michele Martin and I are hosting. There are a few things I wanted to point out as we are going through this:
