Online Educa 08
Tuesday, December 2, 2008
Just getting ready. My workshop on Social Learning and the Web is tomorrow. Unfortunately, the German Embassy in London denied a visa to the Oxford student who was going to assist me because (1) she’s Chinese and (2) they are officious bureaucrats. Furthermore, the books I spent $2,000+ to ship here are nowhere in sight. And so it goes.
It’s great to be back in Berlin. Tis the season: ...

ELGAG - Moodle Workshop
I am attending the Moodle workshop for the first day of the conference. Moodle is an open source LMS that was originally created in the EDU space. In the last several years it has come to compete with Blackboard and WebCT who have since merged. My interest in Moodle centers around it's potential use in the corporate learning market. The workshop I attended focused on the use of Moodle 1.8 and I would have to say that overall I am impressed with it's flexibility and the ease of use from the learner perspective. Some interesting facts came out of Steve Wexler's LMS ...

The argument for blended learning
Following on from my posting last week, So what is blended learning? , which attempted to define a workable definition for blended learning, I have been trying to clarify in my own mind whether the issue is of any real importance. Is blended learning useful and, if so, in what circumstances? The argument for blended learning is really very simple. Each of the most common approaches to learning and development has its own extensive array of advantages and disadvantages. Take the examples of face-to-face workshops, one-to-one coaching sessions and online self-study content - each ...

At the E-learning Guild in Boston - Day One Preconference Workshop
Finally I have arrived safely in Boston and I am about to start the ELGAG (Elearning Guild Annual Gathering).
