Development Tools - Experiences
There are numerous tools that people use to develop courseware. These include Dreamweaver, FrontPage, Lectora, Toolbook, Flash, PowerPoint, Photoshop, FireWorks, Javascript, and others (as well as combinations of some of these). Please post your experiences here , good and bad, with the tools you use, or have used.

Articulate, Captivate, Dreamweaver and Lectora Tops in eLearning Authoring Tool Satisfaction
I was somewhat surprised that my post: Course Authoring and Rapid eLearning Tool Satisfaction didn't generate more interest. You can see the detailed view of the sat numbers here . This data shows that the Articulate tools, Adobe Captivate and Dreamweaver and Lectora are near the top for elearning course authoring. While tools such as Toolbook and Authorware are down a bit. What surprised me is that there wasn't more discussion around this. Is this just common knowledge these days? Do people buy this?

eLearning Course Development
BJ Schone asks a good question in his post - How do you build eLearning courses? I have built our courses using a custom template created using HTML and JavaScript. They couldn't believe I wasn't using Lectora or another similar authoring product. They stressed that my courses would be difficult to maintain over time (in case I leave the company). My ... think it'll be just as easy to find somebody with HTML and JavaScript experience compared to Lectora or other authoring ... authoring tool . Lectora gives quite a bit of flexibility and acts somewhat like an HTML / JavaScript course shell. You ...

Future Platforms for eLearning
The recent article by Dion Hinchcliffe - Blogs, wikis, and Web 2.0 as the next application platform got me thinking again about what corporate eLearning development will be like in five years. Actually, I'm not even that sure what it looks like today. I've seen the Content Authoring Research Report from the eLearningGuild that suggests what tools are being used in 2005 and it suggests that most content is being authored using fairly traditional tools such as Flash, PowerPoint, Dreamweaver, Captivate, Lectora. To a lesser extent people are using Rapid eLearning Development tools but ...

Shift in eLearning from Pure Courseware towards Reference Hybrids
Just when you've made the transition from the prior generation of CBT authoring tools (e.g., Authorware , Toolbook ) to the new generation of WBT authoring tools (e.g., Captivate , Lectora ), it looks like things are slowly shifting again. The shift I'm seeing is away from the design of pure "courseware" solutions and much more to "reference hybrid" solutions. To explain this, I need to step back and deal with the fact that terminology around eLearning Patterns is problematic. In my mind, "courseware" is interactive (to some level) instruction run asynchronously. It is created via ...
