Extending elearning?
Sunday, November 30, 2008
Sharepoint features, and went to look at Microsoft’s page. They tout collaboration, content management, and search as ... A contact asked me what I saw as the link between Sharepoint and elearning, and I started to give my standard answer about portals fitting in with the whole performance ecosystem. Last I played with Sharepoint, it seemed like a portal solution; a place to deposit files. Obvious extensions I would infer from social networking would include wrapping discussion around resources (and, of course, having a way to make the resources accessible from multiple points of view, search ...

There's been a long running discussion around what Knowledge Management is going to look like going forward and whether big systems that manage knowledge are going to be there. Knowledge Management Core Issues
Great post by Denham Grey - Perennial KM issues that are very similar to the core problems that we deal with in eLearning: How to speed learning, increase awareness and share experiences. With an ever deceasing half-life of knowledge , just keeping up has become a major corporate imperative. Sure we have improved search engines, more stuff on the web and many ways to make connections, but the difficulty is making sense and finding people really 'in-the-know'. We need practical ways to build personal informal networks. Helping groups learn from mistakes and errors, practices to ...

Managing Your Most Important Asset: Knowledge
My alma matter, Dartmouth (albeit Tuck ... my MBA is from elsewhere ) has an excellent podcast, Information as a Strategic Asset . Just this weekend I presented at Minnebar 2008 ; my topic was social search within the enterprise. What are you doing to leverage that knowledge? Can you imagine querying external Google, but securely receiving both internal and external results? I can !
Remember, information and knowledge comes from people. Some additional research on the Dartmouth web site brought me to this white paper, Web 2.0 and the Corporation (pdf). The information ...

What does Google Trends tell us?
Google Trends is quite interesting to play around with to see how different search terms have been used within Google. For example, I looked at eLearning as compared with Knowledge Management... You can see that eLearning and Knowledge Management have both been trending downward in searches. Does that imply something as is suggested in: Organic KM: KM Is Losing Steam - Evidence From "The Database Of Intentions" ? I'm not so sure that you can directly jump to the conclusion that interest in these topics are waning. Rather, I think with both Knowledge Management and eLearning ...
