Super Conductivity Lectures from Cambridge University
Tags:

This might as well be Greek to me (super conductivity), but if you want to know more about materials and their advanced properties ... then link to Cambridge University extensive free lectures. The basic intro is described in this manner:
The properties and production techniques of superconductors useful for applications, now and in the future: from niobium-based superconductors, currently used in the majority of applications, to magnesium diboride and YBCO, which are entering commercialisation.
In addition, you'll find four other lecture series. I've added this link to both ...

Gartner Hype Cycle - Critique and Deconstruction

So I've seen this image a few times now - its kind of making the rounds. This one came from a post on Techcrunch. The comments on that post get pretty fired up about the worth of something like this. I both understand the critique of something like popping out of a black box and you're just kind of left going...well I dunno what their data set was? There is addtl info in the full report but as someone pointed out, that over $1K U.S. and I guess that's part of the problem too...when something like this is developed and sold as a product in itself...how do we trust its authenticity ...

Innovating in the Corporate Environment
Tags:
Tag One, Tag Two
One challenge for many large companies is ... how does one encourage innovation and creativity in corporate environments which often push employees to make "safe" decisions? After all, isn't product feature creep the easiest way to enhance what one already knows? Our customers always want more enhancements to existing products, or so we think! This kind of engineering design often leads to "bloatware". In the software arena, take a look at the Yahoo portal or the MS Office suite of products. Compare and contrast these examples to the Google user interface. I ...

Three e-learning project management tools

I feel like Philip Seymour Hoffman playing Lester Bangs in the movie Almost Famous:
William Miller: I’m glad you were home.
Lester Bangs: I’m always home. I’m uncool.
After a self-induced non-productive day on Friday, I thought I better spend Sunday afternoon catching up on my work. I used work as an excuse to get out of a family trip to a water park today because frankly, water parks make me look fat. Better to just be uncool today. (The average forty-something woman does not do anyone a favor by riding down a giant water slide called “killermanjaro.”) ...
