  • Can we create a standard data format across the U.S. Fed?
... excuse the LETSI cross-posting) There was a recent article in Computerworld entitled "Letâ¬"s turn the federal government over to bloggers." The point of the article was to talk about the myriad data formats spread across the federal government. The article quotes a paper from a group of Princeton researchers and includes this excerpt:"Rather than struggling, as it currently does, to design sites that meet each end-user need, it should focus on creating ... effort that ADL/SCORM/CORDRA should be drawing on and working with to accomplish its goals? What would be the impact on the ...

  • eLearning on a Global Scale
I was presented with an interesting task recently: I was asked to recommend a learning management system (LMS) that can support 6 different languages (English, French, French-Canadian, Italian, German, and Spanish). This is new territory to me; I have only worked with LMSs and eLearning courses in English. So I embarked on many hours of research (thank you ... typically provide you with separate SCORM/AICC files for each language? ... that you research mLearning a bit and then see it as another tool in your toolbox. Use it when it is the best solution for ... blogs, articles, etc. Share the info with peers (ahem). To SCORM or not to SCORM, that is the question. When developing mLearning applications, decide early on if you need to track usage in your LMS. If so, you’ll need to research something like Pocket SCORM or OnPoint’s CellCast Solution. Fair warning, though, this definitely adds complexity to your project. You may even want to consider the SCORM tracking to be the second phase of your mLearning deployment.

  • SCORM and MMOGs
I just read an article in Military Training Technology about how the Joint Advanced Distributed Learning (JADL) Co-Laboratory is working on a project to "research methods for enabling interoperability, accessibility, and reusability of SCORM compliant learning content in 3-D virtual worlds". Although this article was published in the October issue, I went to the JADL website and found that the project kicked off in May 2007. Regardless, this effort promises to advance the integration of SCORM and MMOGs by researching training opportunities, the characteristics of learning content for ...

  • Breaking the impasse
I find that there is a point during any lengthy creative process where I find myself staring blankly at the project. • Future Platforms for eLearning
The recent article by Dion Hinchcliffe - Blogs, wikis, and Web 2.0 as the next application platform got me thinking again about what corporate eLearning development will be like in five years. Actually, I'm not even that sure what it looks like today. I've seen the Content Authoring Research Report from the eLearningGuild that suggests what tools are being used in 2005 and it suggests that most content is being authored using fairly traditional tools such as Flash ... line? In five years, I would expect us to be building much less SCORM courseware and much more Wiki-like content ...
