Wearable computer by Nikon - Headsup Training Potential
I saw this cruise by on my "friendstream" this morning. Just had to share. There were lots of comments along the lines how nobody would ever use this in public, and navigating the browser would be a pain, etc, etc. But I couldn't help but think about how useful this would be in a manufacturing environment or some other setting where you needed your hands free to do other things while you monitored digital information. For those of you that have heard any of my presentations, I often talk about "opt-in" & "opt-out" as being a powerful part of monitoring conversations via RSS. We ...

Creating Passionate Learners
I’ve read a lot of computer training books in my time, most of which I’ve gotten through about a third before giving up. Dry, boring, completely uncompelling (hey, just like most eLearning!). I don’t consider myself particularly dense (perhaps I am, but am too dense to realize it?), but I think I’ve always been more of a “ ... teaching style used was unlike any I’d seen in a training book before. Learning 2.0 Is Like Punk Rock
I had a fun discussion last night with several friends / colleagues. We were trying to hypothesize why so many (e)Learning 2.0 initiatives don’t get the traction we would expect, both at our organization and at other organizations. Several of us learning tech geeks see such great opportunities with learning 2.0, but it sometimes feels like others just don’t get it. We have fantastic tools at our disposal, like blogs, social bookmarking, wikis, RSS, etc. - and many of these tools are free. However, it feels like we’re pulling teeth when we try to make a business case to ...

Self-service education
Are you getting tired of self-service? I actually will not be surprised when I’m given a job aid and scalpel when I show up at the doctors office. Imagine all these people in little rooms with their scalpels being overseen by one person like the self-service checkouts at the Home Depot.
In corporate training we’re talking a lot about wikis, blogs, RSS, podcasts, vodcasts, bookmarking, etc. Isn’t this just more work for the learner?

Objection #3: Control of Information
Objection #3 is one that I don’t hear very often directly. It is usually indirectly, because no one wants to admit it. But they do say it through the questions they ask. “If we let everyone learn from each other, we give up control of that information.”
Answer: Yea & Nay. Let’s start with the Nay.
NAY: There are many ways to keep control of the information. You can watch it via RSS or email alerts. All the information is open to you and isn ... first, it is not all bad.
