I remember when Dave Winer introduced Really Simple Syndication (RSS) in Radio Userland way back in 2001. Despite feeds becoming a regular part of web sites, people continue to struggle with how to use them, and don’t want to have to schlep from site to site to find feeds that might interest them.
I suppose it’s a history lesson in some ways but the some of the importance lies in the fact that many of these techniques and variants of them are still used today. As I pretty much live inside my RSS readers, I find myself bouncing around between different websites copying and pasting feed links far more than I should. For example, if I want to create RSS feeds for the keyword ‘obama’, I don’t want to have to go to Google News, Yahoo News, Delicious, Flickr, Bing, Youtube and all those other services to retrieve those feeds.
